Our Students
Students are selected from applications received from 7 area high schools. Applications can be downloaded from our website, and they are also available through the guidance offices in each school. We require a student transcript and an essay describing why they want to continue their education and why they feel that they are deserving of the scholarship. You can find the scholarship application by CLICKING HERE.
We believe that many students are denied a post high school education due to conditions beyond their control. Many students come from families where no one has gone beyond high school. These students have limited access to role models and basic information about how to pursue higher education. Often their families are below average socioeconomically and thus do not feel that they can afford to continue their education.
But getting into college is only the first step. HOLC maintains regular contact with its scholarship recipients to make sure they are receiving the support they need academically and personally. HOLC also gives career guidance at the end of their journey. The reward for staying in school another year is an increase in the scholarship amount. Freshmen receive $350, sophomores receive $500, Juniors receive $750, and seniors receive $1000. With continued growth of our program, we hope to increase both the amount and the number of scholarships awarded.
