Who we are...and what we do.
Established in 2012 by a small group of Lowcountry citizens, we identify deserving students who are graduating from high school and who may need additional funding and support in that process. We recognize that an education beyond high school is a key step toward future success but we also know that many students are less likely to choose that route due to circumstances beyond their control.
Our mission is to match students with additional funding and ongoing mentorship in order to maximize their chances for completing a post- high school education and entering the world of work.
In 2012, we provided $600 in scholarships to four students. Since then, the number of students and the scholarship dollars have grown exponetially every year. In 2019, fourty-five students will recieve over $32,000 in scholarships. Our students are all graduates of Beaufort and Jasper County high schools: Beaufort HS, Bluffton HS, Hilton Head Island HS, Whale Branch HS, Battery Creek HS, River Academy HS and Jasper County HS.
It is contributions from our friends who know the value of a college education that keep keep our mission alive.
Our Organization and our Leadership
HOLC is a 501(c)(3) organization staffed totally by volunteers. All monies received go directly to scholarships and to the small administrative expenses incurred. A very small number of people keep the organization running. But we are always looking for new people to expand our reach and our capabilities. Be sure to check out elsewhere on our website how you can help!
